Choose a table<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tables range from&nbsp;<strong>L4<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00e0&nbsp;<strong>L64<\/strong>, where the number indicates the number of trials. The list of possible designs is filtered for you: a table with too few columns to accommodate your factors&nbsp;<strong>and<\/strong>&nbsp;Your declared interactions do not appear, and the smallest valid table is listed first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two filtering rules worth knowing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>as soon as an interaction is reported,\u00a0<strong>L12 and L20 are being discontinued<\/strong>\u00a0: these tables do not contain any significant interactions; ; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>certain interaction structures: three factors that interact in pairs, or two disjoint groups, require a larger table (a multiple of 16, or even 32).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u26a0\ufe0f The column&nbsp;<strong>column<\/strong>&nbsp;The factor table places each factor in a specific column of the table. This isn't just for show: the column determines what the factor will be aliased to. For a design with no declared interactions, let Ellistat handle the placement; as soon as there are interactions, the alias table is the only way to verify that the placement is acceptable to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. The Three Options<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><td><strong>Option<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Effect<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Reply<\/strong><\/td><td>Doubles the number of attempts to remove aliases. Hidden if the selected table is already a complete schema.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Quadratic<\/strong><\/td><td>Adds an additional level for studying a quadratic effect and sets a central point.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Number of central points<\/strong><\/td><td>Number of trials at the center of the estate.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udca1 \u00abQuadratic\u00bb transforms a two-level design into the starting point for a response surface. This is the approach to take when a factorial design has yielded clear effects and you suspect there is an optimum within the design space: you add the center rather than rebuilding the design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. The Interaction Table<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a cross-tabulation of factors. Each cell contains&nbsp;<strong>Yes<\/strong>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<strong>No<\/strong>&nbsp;; one click toggles it. Declaring an interaction reserves a column in the table for it, thereby removing it from the aliases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For tables L12 and L20, the page displays the message \u00abThere are no interactions in this table\u00bb: these designs are intended for screening and distribute the interactions across all columns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. The alias table<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The title lists the table selected and its resolution, for example, \u00abalias L16 (Resolution IV).\u00bb Three columns:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>column<\/strong>\u00a0: the column number in the table; ; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Factors<\/strong>\u00a0: what is placed there: a factor, or a declared interaction denoted as A*B; ; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>alias<\/strong>\u00a0: unreported interactions that fall into this same column and are therefore confused with what is already there.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u26a0\ufe0f A column containing a factor&nbsp;<strong>and<\/strong>&nbsp;The presence of aliases means that the effect measured for this factor is actually the sum of its own effect and these interactions. If any of these interactions is physically plausible, the observed effect cannot be interpreted as is.
