To detect real differences between measurement groups, between two suppliers, two machines, two shifts, two production periods...you need to compare complete distributions. This is precisely what two statistical tests integrated into <a href=\"https:\/\/ellistat.com\/en\/data-analysis-solutions\/\" type=\"page\" id=\"905\">Ellistat Data Analysis<\/a> test: the <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Test_de_Cramer-Von_Mises\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Test_de_Cramer-Von_Mises\">Cram\u00e9r-von Mises<\/a> and the Energy test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Cram\u00e9r-von Mises test<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This test compares :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>either a sample with a theoretical distribution<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or two samples between them<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The principle:<\/strong> the test compares the cumulative distribution functions (ogives) of the two distributions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In other words, it measures \u00abhow far apart the cumulative curves are\u00bb?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the two distributions are close, the warheads overlap. It is particularly suitable when :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>more than two populations are compared<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>distributions are unknown<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>data are multidimensional<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The principle <\/strong>The test is based on an intuitive idea: comparing distances between points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It measures :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>average distances within groups<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>then distances between groups <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the groups come from the same distribution, the intra- and inter-group distances are similar. Otherwise, distances between groups become greater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What this means in practice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Compare two suppliers on a critical diameter. Validate a change of machine setting. Analyze a before\/after on an unstable process.
