  • Quantitative variable : the extent to which an average is meaningful.
  • Qualitative variable : category; we count the number of students, we don't calculate an average.
  • X and Y : X explains, Y is explained. The role changes the available charts.
  • Paired data : two sets of measurements taken on the same individuals. This must be reported, or else the test power will be reduced.
  • p-value : the probability of observing such a discrepancy if no actual difference existed. If this probability is small, it makes the possibility of chance seem unlikely.
  • AUC : area under the ROC curve, a measure's discriminatory power. 0.5 = random, 1 = perfect.Interaction : The effect of one factor depends on the level of another. Multivariate analysis makes this clear.
