Calculation Conventions

Reading time

The results follow the conventions of FactoMineR, the academic standard in factor analysis. Specifically:

⇒ Quantitative variables are centered and scaled by the population standard deviation; ;

⇒ the coordinates of a variable on an axis are its correlation with this axis; ;

⇒ the coordinates of the individuals have a variance equal to the eigenvalue of the axis; ;

⇒ The contributions of a given axis sum to 100 %; the cosines squared of a point sum to 1 across all axes; ;

⇒ The total inertia is equal to the number of variables in PCA.

These conventions allow for a direct comparison of Ellistat output with FactoMineR output on the same dataset.
